Our third winter talk was from Dr Jane Medwell who is a Master Beekeeper. This topic was Queen Rearing on a small scale. Jane started the talk by reminding us all about the benefits of Queen Rearing ourselves; buying queens from either abroad or even just from a different area can be a huge contributor to the spread of disease and other pests. She talked through different methods and had a wide variety of kit and equipment to pass round so that we could easily visualise the steps and processes that would be required. It was clear that this talk provided confidence and inspiration by the questions and conversations that followed. We are certainly looking forward to the Queen Rearing sessions that we have planned at our Training Apiary later this year.
