What a wonderful Association Honey Show Weekend of Saturday 12th & 13th September.
The Show opened to members at 09.45 am with final entries staged at 10.30 am. Judges were in attendance and the judging started at 10.45 am prompt.
There were 24 Classes, from different types of honey, frames of honey for extraction, mead, wax and candles, photographs, cakes & biscuits, junior and novice classes. This year there was a new class, The Guest Class, in honour of Will Hooley, The Hooley Honey Pot Trophy, and presented to the Winner Becca by Will’s wife Anne, which proved to be a little emotional. Becca now has the task to choose next year’s Guest exhibit class at the AGM. Well done to those who entered the Novice Classes, especially for the first time, it’s very daunting, but hopefully they gained encouragement and experience to enter again next year.
Open viewing commenced at 14.45-15.30 with members and families enjoying the array of exhibits on display, followed by the presentations of prizes and trophies.
As it was National Heritage Weekend, the Show was opened up to the General Public on the Sunday, this saw a lot of people enjoying the displays from the Show, being amazed at what products are produced from the bees, as well as seeing the observation hive, finding the queen and being given lots of information about beekeeping and being a keeper of bees, as well as important information with regard to the Asian Hornet and the impact it is having on our bees. Sutton Park Honey was being tasted and sold, all in all a great weekend.
A total of 239 exhibits were staged by 41 members along with 4 junior member entries. The show grows year on year with more entries and entrants this year than before. The judges were very impressed with the standard and number of exbibits and commented that the novice entries were of a ‘really high standard’.
Thanks go to all who entered and helped run the show on Saturday and engaged with the public on the Sunday open event – a wonderful team endeavour!
