Julia was Stewarding for The Honey Show Judges and so was able to take down this year’s exhibits which included, Honey Jar Labels, Mead; dry, sweet & melomel, Photographs & 2 jars of Naturally Crystallized Honey (not stirred). We had great results in the Mead classes, James’ Mead received 1st Place with his Orange Melomel, whilst Lee’s received Very Highly Commended with his 2 bottles of mead & Highly Commended with his dry mead whilst his black & white photograph picked up a Very High Commended. Warwick County members also achieved awards in Honey, Wax & Microscopy, maybe the Smallholder County Challenge Shield may soon belong to Warwickshire !
Julia, Lee & Simon spent Thursday afternoon, all day Friday and most of Saturday doing workshops, ie microscopy – preparing anatomy & pollen slides; Using Apideas; Making Mead to drink & show; Super Natural Cosmetics; Showing Honey, as well as sitting in on lectures, such as ‘transitioning from miticide treatments to varroa-resistant honey bees’ by Steve Riley, ‘Varroa resistance’ by Robert Pickard, ‘Honey Bee viruses’ by Humberto Boncristiani, as well as spending money at the Trade Show, which had some very interesting stands, including the big names. It was an absolutely packed few days with Fiona & Leonie joining us on Saturday to view the exhibits and to receive the new of James’ 1st Prize.
