The Canwell Show returned after a break away on 10th August and North Birmingham and Sutton Coldfield Beekeeping Association had a stand with live bees.
The show included vintage tractors and cars and lots of local craft and culinary stalls. There were horse and sheep competitions and pig racing at various points throughout the day – with our very own Alfie winning Best Rescue Dog in the dog competition!
Giant tortoises were available for a meet and greet and there were multiple Birds of Prey displays throughout the day which drew big crowds enjoying the spectacle of these dramatic birds soaring through the air and swooping for their feed.
There was plenty of human Food and Drink available from all corners of the world which could be enjoyed to the backdrop of the music stage featuring tribute bands for Fleetwood Mac, Taylor Swift and Abba.
As ever, our stand was very busy with members of the public – young and old – who were thrilled at being able to see live bees and have the opportunity to spot the queen. We were selling honey from the Sutton Park apiary which was very popular. A lot of people are starting to be more aware of honey adulteration which is good to hear. People also had the opportunity to go through the training hive and children could dress as a beekeeper and participate in the Fruit Challenge; naming different fruits and learning how important pollination is.
Next year will be the centenary celebration for the show and we look forward to participating again.
