Bees Beyond the Microscope

Event Description

A Talk by Barry Meatyard.

‘Bees Beyond the Microscope’ is a journey into the fascinating world behind ‘our girls’ that escapes the naked eye and otherwise goes unseen.

‘Barry has been keeping bees for around 30 years, punctuated by periods of work overseas and currently has 3 hives. A botanist by degree, with a PhD in protein structure of algae, he has a wide interest in biology and has worked on projects ranging from the Galapagos islands, the forests of Belize, the mountains of the Canadian Yukon and the very special Isle of Mull. His prime interest has been in education and his teaching has spanned working with school teachers, a few years in secondary schools and lecturing at Warwick University. In ‘retirement’ he runs microscopy workshops for Warwickshire County Beekeepers and his ‘man cave’ has become a bit of a laboratory. In his spare time he plays the mandolin and is involved in the restoration of the Walled Kitchen Garden that fed Guy’s Cliffe House and its estate on the North side of Warwick, dating from the 1760s.  As ‘EdCo’ for Warwick and Leamington, Barry is also involved in a range of local training initiatives.
